This residence called for a lighting and shade approach that would complement the surrounding landscape while providing comfort and flexibility for everyday living.
We began during the architectural design phase, working alongside the project’s architect and interior designer to establish lighting zones and shade locations before construction began. Starting early allowed us to integrate conduit runs, fixture blocking, and shade pockets into the structural plans — avoiding costly retrofits.
The lighting design uses layered residential lighting throughout: ambient cove lighting in living areas, task lighting in the kitchen and workspaces, and accent lighting to highlight architectural details and artwork. We specified fixtures from DMF and WAC for their durability and performance.
For shade control, we installed Lutron motorized roller shades with solar-filtering fabrics on the west-facing elevations, reducing heat gain while preserving views of the surrounding landscape. The entire system — lighting and shades — runs on a Lutron whole-home control platform with custom scenes for daytime, entertaining, and evening.
Landscape lighting extends the design outdoors with Garden Light LED path and accent fixtures, creating a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living spaces after dark.
