A Design Studio, Not an Integrator
C4 Light is an architectural lighting & shade design studio for luxury residences. We design lighting environments, specify the fixtures, and integrate the controls — and we do that in close collaboration with the architect, interior designer, and builder, beginning during schematic design.
That distinction matters. The traditional smart-home category is built around installation labor and equipment racks. Our practice is built around design authority, specification quality, and the small, beautifully detailed gestures that separate a luxury residence from a well-equipped one. Lighting is a core building system. We treat it that way.
We Listen First
Certifications, technical depth, and 25 years of practice matter — and we have them. But we start by listening. We observe how the household lives, what matters, and what the architecture is trying to do. There are many ways to light a room. Only one is right for this room, in this house, for these people.
We Collaborate from Schematic Design
The most consequential lighting decisions are made before construction begins. Conduit routing, fixture blocking, shade pockets, control zones, keypad locations — these belong in the structural drawings, not in the punch list. We integrate during schematic design and stay through final aiming, working as a peer to the architect and interior designer rather than as a downstream vendor.
We Design for the Trade
Architects, interior designers, and builders are our primary collaborators, and the work is structured to make their lives easier. Clear documentation. Specifications electricians can build from. A small, high-trust local team for commissioning. A central team for design and programming. We are easy to work with — and we keep our footprint on the project deliberately quiet.
We Make It Feel Inevitable
Most homeowners do not want to think about lumens, color temperature, or control protocols. They want a house that does the right thing — bright when it should be, soft when it should be, dim and warm in the evening, awake in the morning. We handle the technical complexity so the experience is unselfconscious. Beautifully engraved keypads. A small number of scenes. A system that runs on its own.
We Understand the Project
A Hill Country house in the Texas sun is not a downtown Austin renovation, and neither is a Naples estate. We have worked across climates, styles, and budgets, and that range is what lets us anticipate the things that go wrong before they do — and propose the small details that turn a good project into a memorable one.
When to Bring Us In
The ideal moment is during schematic or early design-development, before the electrical plans are drawn. That is when conduit, blocking, and pocket details cost nothing to change.
But it is never too late. We also advise on renovations and on existing homes, and we are comfortable working within tighter constraints.
